Limassol police are questioning a 27-year-old professional soldier (Syop) in connection with an explosion at a Cyprus telecommunications authority (Cyta) branch on December 13, the Cyprus News Agency reported late on Tuesday.

The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court tomorrow to be remanded in custody.

Police said they had made the arrest after evaluating evidence.

Perpetrators had placed an improvised explosive devise at the glass entrance of the branch and then threw two Molotov bombs near a Hellenic Bank branch.  Two slogans were sprayed on the walls of the Cyta branch, one reading ‘No to 5G’ and the second ‘There is a resistance’.

Police believe it may be the same people who a little later attempted to set fire to Limassol Municipality’s Christmas tree in Gregori Afxentiou Square.
