A 54-year-old Larnaca resident was fined €4,000 after a large number of cigarettes and tobacco for which duties had not been paid was found in his possession.

Police officers who searched premises in the Larnaca district and a car owned by the man on Thursday found 12 boxes of tobacco and 18 boxes of cigarettes.

The items were seized by the customs department. The case was settled out of court after the 54-year-old offered to pay €4,000.
