Search and rescue service boosted by Medevac teams

Medivac

Two air medical service specialist units were unveiled by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre’s (JRCC) search and rescue air bases in Larnaca on Monday.

The MEDEVAC (MEDical EVACuation) units have been set up in an effort to upgrade the government’s search and rescue system and will form a part of the state health services organisation (Okypy)’s ambulance service, the JRCC said.

The units will be manned by experienced and qualified medics and an officer will be stationed at the base to facilitate the possibility of immediate response for incidents requiring airlifting, maximising the JRCC’S search and rescue capacity.

The JRCC thanked volunteer medics from Larnaca Civil Defence for successfully covering air medical service needs when required.
