Moves to improve government’s internal auditing

Audit

President Nicos Anastasiades asked for a study into staffing the government’s internal audit departments with trained personnel to improve the effectiveness of risk management procedures, it was announced on Wednesday.

According to deputy government spokesman Panayiotis Sentonas, Anastasiades chaired a meeting with the members of the internal audit council – the ministers of finance, labour, transport, treasurer, and auditor Iacovos Galanos — and the internal audit commissioner, which looked into how to make the units more effective.

“The president gave instructions for a comprehensive study to be prepared by the end of February into staffing the internal audit units with the suitable personnel so that the cabinet can make the necessary decisions,” Sentonas said in a written statement.
