Music from theatres of Cyprus

cyso centre

In its first live concert since early December last year, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will return to theatres across Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca this month to perform a series of three different programmes.

Music from theatres of Cyprus, as the concert is titled, is a musical journey through Greek and Italian myths. The Markideio Municipal Theatre in Paphos will be the first venue to host the Orchestra with a concert taking place on Friday at 7pm. The Orchestra’s musicians will present a programme with works by Beethoven, Vivaldi and Mendelssohn. Joining CySO musicians are two highly talented Cypriot artists, flutist and piccolist Diomedes Demetriades and conductor Petros Stylianou.

Demetriades has performed not only with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra before but also numerous other international orchestras including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Since February 2018, he holds the position of Principal Piccolo Player at the Ulster Orchestra and since 2012 he has been collaborating with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as an extra musician.

Similarly, conductor Stylianou has collaborated with dozens of musical ensembles and orchestras in his career from the St. Petersburg Conservatory Opera and Ballet Theatre to the Quebec Symphony Orchestra and more. He regularly collaborates with both the Cyprus Symphony and Youth Symphony Orchestras, conducting various symphonic programmes and has also served as an assistant conductor in significant operatic productions.
