How to recognise danger signs of ‘bloat’ in your dog

In this video, Dr. Justine Lee, veterinary specialist in emergency/critical care and toxicology, discusses the signs of life-threatening “stomach bloat” of dogs.

Gastric dilatation voluvulus, abbreviated to “GDV”, or simply referred to as “bloat”, can result when a canine’s stomach twists, causing severe shock, pain, retching, vomit attempts, collapse, a distended stomach and abdomen, anxiety – even death.

Commonly seen in giant breed dogs, like the Great Dane and German Shepherd, all dog owners should nevertheless be aware of this surgical emergency. So, if you notice any of the symptoms mentioned, get your pooch to your veterinarian or emergency veterinarian immediately.
