Coronavirus: 382 new cases, no deaths (Updated)

The health ministry announced 382 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday out of 38,685 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.99 per cent.

No deaths were reported, but there are now 218 people in hospital, of whom 44 are in serious condition. Fifteen patients are intubated.

The new cases concern 103 people found positive through contact tracing, 59 people who got tested privately and seven cases processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Two cases emerged from testing of passengers at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Eight cases were people found positive after getting antigen rapid tests in private labs.

Another 203 cases were among 34,402 samples collected through the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Four of these cases were detected in the education sector, three is nursing homes in Nicosia and four among tests given at the Ypsonas industrial area.

The rest of these cases concern 108 detected in the Limassol district, with a positivity rate of 1.09 per cent, 42 in Nicosia (0.37 per cent), 24 in Larnaca (0.54 per cent), 11 in the Famagusta district (0.70 per cent), and seven in Paphos (0.23 per cent).

In total 40,726 cases were recorded so far.

The number of deaths remains at 241: 160 men and 81 women, with average age 79 years.
