Coronavirus: Two deaths, 326 cases on Sunday (Updated)

Two deaths and 326 new coronavirus cases were announced on Sunday.

The deaths were a 69-year-old woman and a man, 74, both with underlying conditions. The woman had received the first dose of a vaccine — the type was not specified.

According to the health ministry, 196 people were in hospital with the virus, of whom 52 are in serious condition. Twenty-one patients are intubated.

The new cases were among 55,090 tests both PCR and rapid tests with positivity rate of 0.59 per cent. They concern 75 cases found positive through contact tracing, 28 people who got tested privately, and six cases among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Five positive cases were detected during tests in migrant reception centres.

Another 212 cases were among 52,958 rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Nine cases were detected among tests carried out in businesses between March 19 and Sunday. Eighty cases were found during tests in the Limassol district with a positivity rate of 0.61 per cent, 66 in Nicosia (0.38 per cent), 34 in Larnaca (0.46 per cent), 13 in Paphos (0.33 per cent), and 10 cases in the Famagusta district (0.41 per cent).

The total number of cases is now 44,631.

So far, 252 deaths have been recorded: 168 men and 84 women.
