Paphos police on Monday rescued a man who fell into the sea from rocks in front of the Cypria Maris hotel.

Police officers were informed at 10.30pm that a man was calling for help in the sea and rushed to the scene.

The marine police vessel Astrapi 31 was also dispatched and a search began with the help of fishermen in the area.

The 34-year-old British man, a resident of Cyprus, was found a little later by fishermen 1.5 kilomtetres from the hotel and taken to Kato Paphos port by the police vessel.

The man, who doctors say was drunk, was taken to Paphos hospital as a precaution. He is reportedly in good health.
