The Research Aristarchus Centre of the European University Cyprus successfully organised the international interdisciplinary internet conference Strengthening of the Theoretical Underpinning of Connectivity Research.

The day was organised in the framework of the activities of the Research Network Marie Skowsodowska Curie ITN (Innovative Training Networks) i – CONN (Interdisciplinary connectivity: Understanding and managing complex systems using connectivity science), in which the Aristarchos research centre participates as a partner.
The conference featured presentations from distinguished international academics in the field of network science, such as professor Shlomo Havlin of the department of physics at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, professor Pavlos Spyrakis of the department of computer science at the University of Liverpool, and associate professor Frangiskos Papadopoulos of the department of electrical and computer engineering of the Cyprus University of Technology.

The i – CONN network includes scientists and academics from the fields of computer science, astrophysics, ecology, geomorphology, neuroscience, and other sciences, and is coordinated by Durham University in the UK.

The goal of i-CONN is to train a team of young early stage researchers (ESRs) specialising in the evolving field of connectivity science, who will be able to develop interdisciplinary approaches to connect to a range of disciplines and real applications in the coming years.

The European University of Cyprus and the Aristarchos Research Centre in collaboration with the research organisation AAISCS will host two of these researchers who are studying in the doctoral programme in informatics of the European University of Cyprus. The project budget is €4 million of which € 470,000 will be allocated to the Cypriot partners. The duration of the project is four years (2019-2023).
