Limassol shooting suspect arrested

Police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old man wanted on suspicion of shooting and slightly injuring another man, 19, in Limassol in August last year.

The suspect had fled to the north where he was arrested by Turkish Cypriot authorities in November. He was handed over on Thursday through the bicommunal technical committee on crime.

The man had been sought by police in connection with a shooting incident on Anexartisias Street on August 28, 2020, in which a 19-year-old had been slightly injured.

The shooting took place following a clash involving foreign nationals over professional disagreements.

The suspect fired shots in the air after the incident, as he was trying to escape.

Police arrested his brother, but he managed to cross over to the north where he remained at large until November.
