The Cyprus High Commission and the Cyprus Centre at the University of Westminster are holding a series of online lunchtime symposia themed on Covid-19 and its diverse impact on people of the Cypriot diaspora in Britain. Three events will take place, all free to attend with the first on May 20 starting at 12.30pm GMT.

The first symposium is titled ‘Health’ and will focus on the impact of the pandemic on the community in terms of health, physical and mental. Issues of mortality, dealing with grief and isolation, and questions arising from the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on the community will be considered. Following the panellist’s presentations, the discussion will move to the floor. The virtual event will take place on Blackboard Collaborate and those interested in attending should email [email protected] with their name and affiliation (if appropriate) to receive the link.

The second event will take place on June 10 again at 12.30pm GMT and will explore the impact of Covid-19 on the culture of the Cypriot community. Mostly anecdotal in nature, there will be an exploration of the reflections of those both participating and offering cultural experiences.

‘Next Generation’ is the title of the third symposium, happening on July 1. Throughout the one-hour event, the panel will explore the reactions and effects of the pandemic on the younger generation. How it has affected expectations, income, business, SMEs, work prospects, hope and trust. Graduates, youth bodies and aspiring professionals will be invited to talk about their experiences hoping to aid and support the Cypriot diaspora in the UK.
