Coronavirus: Pub fined €1,000 for violating Covid measures

Nicosia police fined a pub €1,000 late on Thursday after finding many customers standing close to each other.

The pub also failed to display the coronavirus signs asking people to wear a face mask.

The fine was part of 4,468 nationwide checks between 6am on Thursday and 6pm on Friday during which police also booked 36 people.

Six more people were fined in Nicosia after 1,151 checks for breaches in coronavirus protocols including failing to wear a face mask and breaking the midnight curfew.

Limassol police fined eight people after 669 checks, while officers in Larnaca fined five people after 571 checks. Another two people were fined in Paphos after 531 checks.

The majority of violations by residents, 15, were in Famagusta where police carried out 736 checks.
