Animal Party to protest dog ban on Sunday

The animal party will hold a protest march with dogs on the Oroklini coastal road on Sunday against the decision of the community council to ban dogs from the area last week.

Public spaces are “for everyone, residents and animals,” the party said in a press release on Saturday, following Oroklini community council’s May 12 decision to ban people from walking with their dogs in the coastal road.

People who will attend the Larnaca march with their dogs must remember to bring the necessary tools to pick up their pets’ waste, the animal party added.

The march, at 6pm, will take place in accordance with the relevant health protocols against the spread of Covid-19, the announcement said.

A similar move was attempted by Limassol municipality when they considered to ban dogs from Molos back in 2017 following complaints by residents over pollution and public health risks.

The ban failed to be implemented following protests by residents and animal activists. In 2020, the municipality inaugurated a dog park.
