Man to stand trial for raping 24-year-old woman

Paphos court

A 24-year-old man will stand trial for rape at Paphos criminal court on July 22, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The court ordered that the suspect remain in custody until his court date.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, had filed a complaint with police on June 13.

She told police that as she was walking home in the early hours of June 13, she was forcibly dragged by a stranger and raped in the courtyard of Ayios Antonios church. The woman gave a description of the perpetrator to police.

After police investigations of CCTV footage from nearby stores and an eyewitness testimony, the suspect was arrested and remanded in custody.
