Three men were arrested for attacking a police officer during an altercation at Paphos airport on Saturday night, the police reported on Monday.

According to a police report, the incident, at around midnight on Saturday, began when a police officer cautioned a permanent Paphos resident for illegally parking outside the terminal.

When he was asked to present identification, the man refused to comply and verbally attacked and threatened the police officer. Two other police officers joined in when the man’s offences did not stop.

This prompted two other individuals to try to prevent the first man’s arrest, resulting in an attack on one of the three police officers which culminated in the officer being thrown to the ground.

All three men were eventually taken into custody and charged with public disorder, public insult, threatening a police officer, assaulting police officers and obstructing a police officer in the performance of their duties as well as the traffic offences originally committed.

All people involved in the incident were taken to the Paphos general hospital where their injuries were treated by the hospital’s emergency department.
