Injured tourist rescued after Cape Greco fall

Authorities mounted a sea and land operation on Tuesday to extract an injured tourist from an inaccessible location at the sea caves area of Cape Greco.

According to a written statement, the rescue centre was notified at around 3.25pm that a man was in danger in the Palathkia area of Gape Greco.

A fire service rescue crew, a marine police patrol boat, and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene where they found the man, a 25-year-old Slovakian national, lying injured after a fall.

He was removed from the water and given first aid before the police speedboat rushed him to a location where the ambulance awaited.

The man was treated and taken to Famagusta hospital, the statement said without elaborating on his condition.

The authorities warned that diving at the location is banned because of ground erosion.
