The met office issued a new yellow alert valid from 9pm on Sunday to 4pm on Monday.
Forecasters said temperatures would not fall below 26C inland and 27C on the coast. On Monday the temperature is expected to be 40C inland.
The high temperature will continue into Tuesday with increased cloud on Wednesday and a small drop in temperature.
