Over 5,500 counterfeit items have been seized from several shops in the Famagusta district, police said on Thursday.

A joint operation by police and the customs department turned up over 5,500 items including clothing and accessories believed to be counterfeits, an announcement said.

Officials seized 3,270 items of clothing, bags, hats and sunglasses from a clothing shop in Protaras, and 2,123 more from a souvenir shop in Ayia Napa.

In addition, a second shop in Protaras was found to be selling 262 counterfeit clothes and pairs of shoes.

Investigations continue.
