The deputy ministry of tourism has launched a new initiative called “Heartland of Legends” aimed at promoting Cyprus’ cultural heritage by developing tourism in rural and mountainous areas of the island.

Deputy Minister Savvas Perdios announced the start of the project during a ceremony held in the village of Prastio Avdimou in the Limassol district.

“The project is the result of the inspiration drawn from the rich cultural heritage of our island and aims to further develop tourism in rural and mountainous regions,” Perdios told the ceremony.

“It involves the creation of a central circular route, as well as a number of other thematic routes, which will offer authentic experiences to visitors, bringing them closer to the country’s nature, traditions and way of life.

“The thematic routes will continuously be enriched with additional experiences in the next stages of the project,” Perdios said.

He added that travellers today are looking for the opportunity to experience the places they visit more in depth.

“They want to get to know the local people and traditions, to be introduced to the local gastronomy and to understand the local culture.

“The route provides an opportunity for villages, communities and local producers to be showcased while offering visitors some unforgettable experiences,” Perdios said.

The deputy ministry is hoping that the project will be an effective tool to promote an alternative type of tourism to both local and foreign visitors to Cyprus.

To this end, it called for businesses interested in being included in the routes to send an email to [email protected].
