Coronavirus: 117 new cases, no deaths seen on Tuesday (updated)

The health ministry announced 117 new cases of Covid-19 and no deaths on Tuesday.

As no-one died, the total death toll remains at 552, of whom 350 were men and 202 women.

There are 84 coronavirus patients in hospitals, of whom 34 are in serious condition. Fifteen are intubated, two are in ICU without a ventilator, and 17 in the High Dependency Unit.

Of the patients, 74.72 per cent are unvaccinated.

A total of 51,973 PCR and rapid tests were carried out, giving a positivity rate of 0.23 per cent. Of these, 5,342 were PCR and 46,631 rapid tests.

The majority of cases, 47 of the 117 positives, came from rapid testing performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 13 more cases found out of 19,704 rapid tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

A total of 27 cases came from 2,176 samples taken through private initiative, while 246 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases yielded 16 positives.

Five positives came from 244 samples processed by hospital labs, while 208 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 2,468 samples were taken at airports with nine positives.

The cases raise the total number of cases detected to date to 120,020.

In the north, 21,539 tests turned up 86 cases.

According to the ‘health ministry,’ four cases were imported, 22 contacts of confirmed cases, and 60 local infections.

Twenty-five cases were found in Nicosia, 17 in Kyrenia, 11 in Famagusta and seven in Trikomo.

So far, the north has reported 19,386 cases and 78 deaths.
