Coronavirus: No deaths, 227 people test positive on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry announced 227 new cases of Covid-19 and no deaths on Friday.

As there were no deaths, the death toll remains 575, of whom 367 were men and 208 women.

There are 73 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 27 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 27 patients, eight are intubated, two are in the ICU without a ventilator and 17 in the High Dependency Unit.

One post-Covid patient who is no longer infectious remains intubated in ICU.

Of all patients, 66.67 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

A total of 56,230 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried out today, with a positivity rate of 0.40 per cent.

Of the 56,230 tests, 4,827 were PCR and 51,403 rapid tests.

The majority, 80 of the 227 cases came rapid testing performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 48 more found out of 20,950 tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

Twenty-seven cases came from 1,510 samples taken through private initiative, while 59 came from 883 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases.
Ten positives came from 224 samples processed by hospital labs, while 208 samples taken through GP referrals yielded two positives.

In addition, 2,002 samples were taken at airports with one positive.

The total number of positives to date is 125,640.

Meanwhile, the north reported 116 cases from 14,475 tests performed in the last 24 hours.

According to the ‘health ministry,’ 16 cases are contacts of confirmed cases and 100 are local infections.

Thirty were detected in Nicosia, 30 in Kyrenia, 32 in Famagusta, five in Trikomo, two in Morphou and one in Lefka.

In total, the north has reported 23,184 cases and 89 deaths.
