A 19-year-old teenager who tried to assault a police officer with a knife was arrested with illegal drugs in his possession in the early morning hours on Monday in Limassol.

Patrol officers spotted a car with two passengers that was parked on the side of the road in Ayios Athanasios area around 1.30am. Suspicions were raised when the two passengers ducked in the car to hide when they saw the officers.

Police approached them in the patrol vehicle using the siren and blue lights.

The person sitting at the passenger’s seat exited the car, unzipped his cardigan and tried to take out a knife, but the officer grabbed his arm.

The suspect allegedly hit the policeman in the chest and tried to pull out the knife again, but other officers seized it and restrained him.

During a further search, police found two plastic bags with about 30 grammes of cannabis in the possession of the teenager.
