Christmas trees on sale from forestry department

Christmas trees will go on sale starting Monday, November 29, the forestry department said on Tuesday.

Trees cut as a result of the department’s efforts to improve growing conditions and maintain forests will be on sale at forest stations around the island.

The stations will operate from 8am to 3pm on weekdays.

The department reiterated that logging, possession, or transportation of Christmas trees without the relevant licence is an offence punishable by a fine up to €5,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.

“Private tree owners are urged to obtain in advance the necessary logging and transport permits to present them when requested,” the announcement added.

All those visiting the sale points are requested to comply with the decrees of the health ministry related to Covid-19 pandemic.

The trees will be available for sale until December 17 at the following stations:
