Basketball player taken off ventilator a week after beating

AEL’s Corey Manigault, 23, was taken off a ventilator at the ICU of the Nicosia general hospital where he is treated after he was beaten during a brawl outside a club last weekend.

Limassol’s AEL basketball club posted an update on Manigault health late on Saturday, saying that the player can breathe on his own, a week after he was admitted at the hospital.

“Nevertheless, our basketball player is still under close supervision by the doctors in the ICU of the Nicosia general hospital”, the announcement said.

AEL’s Corey Manigault, 23, was transferred to the hospital after he was a brawl outside a nightclub in the capital in the early morning hours last Sunday.

Two others were also injured during the incident, Brandon Averette, who also plays basketball for AEL, and Manigault’s partner.

Manigault’s mother arrived in Cyprus on Tuesday from the US. According to a statement released by the player’s club, she was taken to the Nicosia general hospital shortly after landing.

According to police, five arrests have been made so far in relation to the beating.
