Coronavirus: Man arrested for using someone else’s SafePass (Updated)

Limassol police have arrested a 27-year-old man who entered a shop using someone else’s SafePass. The owner of the SafePass was later tracked down and also arrested.

Limassol police officers were checking compliance with decrees to contain the spread of pandemic at a shop at around 7.20pm. There they asked a customer for his ID.

He presented a SafePass on his telephone as well as a photograph of an alien’s registration card with a name and age.

Following further checks, he made a number of errors and eventually gave his personal data.

The 27-year-old told police that he did not have a SafePass and that he had asked the owner of the documents he had first presented to police to send them to him. The owner is a fully-vaccinated 21-year-old.

The first man was arrested for conspiracy to commit an offence and impersonation, whereas the second man was tracked down and also detained.

Both men appeared before Limassol district court on Thursday, where they pleaded no contest to impersonation charges. The court ordered their detainment until the day of sentencing, set for December 29.
