Heavy rains see Argaka dam overflow

argaka

The Argaka dam, which holds 990,000 cubic metres of water has overflowed, the local community leader said on Sunday.

Community leader Spyros Pelopida said the dam overflowed earlier this year than last.

“After the predictions there would be a drought, fortunately God had other plans, with the overflowing of the Argaka dam, and the prolonged rainfall,” he said.

The rain is welcome in Argaka as it is a farming village that sends produce not only to the rest of the island but also overseas, he said.

The Argaka dam is the first in Paphos to overflow this winter.

The dam of Pomos, which holds 860,000m³ of water is also nearing overflow as it is currently 87 per cent full.
