Coronavirus: Four deaths, 2,114 test positive on Friday (Updated)

Authorities on Friday announced four more deaths attributed to Covid-19, while testing detected 2,114 new positives.

The latest fatalities were two women, aged 79 and 90, who passed away on Friday; and two men, aged 68 and 83, who died on Thursday.

These take the Covid death toll to 873.

Meantime the number of hospitalised remained stable, with 137 people being treated for Covid-19. Of these, 30 were said to be in a serious condition.

Of the 30 serious cases, one was in ICU but not on a ventilator; 12 intubated, and 17 in high-dependency units.

In addition, 16 post-Covid patients (no longer infectious) continued to be intubated in ICU.

The health ministry reported that 57.67 per cent of those in hospital did not have a record of vaccination.

The day’s 107,650 tests tracked 2,114 positives – a positivity rate of 1.96 per cent.

Contact tracing found 118 positives from 898 samples; private initiative tracked 1,300 positives from 50,142 tests; and the health ministry’s programmes detected 710 positives from 55,428 antigen rapid tests.

Test-to-stay tracked 32 positives from 3,770 tests.

In nursing homes, four positive cases came up from 871 tests.
