Coronavirus: Two deaths, 1,459 test positive on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry announced that  two people had died of Covid-19 and that  1,459 had tested positive from 57,728 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of  2.53 per cent.

The deaths concerned two women aged 74 and 91, taking the two-year toll to 977.

There are 207 people in hospitals of whom 29 are in serious condition. Of these, five are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 57.9 per cent.

Of the total number of tests,  2,500 were PCR, which detected 96 positives while 55,228 were rapid tests, finding 1,363.

Nineteen positives were found through PCR tests in contact tracing and 454 rapid tests were carried out in the same category, finding 39 positives,

Most of the positive cases were detected in tests done on private initiative and with the ministry’s free testing programme.

In nursing homes there were 81 rapid tests detecting two positives.
