Cabinet green lights aid to farmers and tourism incentives

The cabinet on Wednesday approved millions in subsidises for animal breeders and for sections of the tourism sector, namely those engaged in traditional Cypriot activities and for low-income pensioners to afford hotel stays.

The payment of emergency financial assistance for sheep and goat farming will total €5 million and to cattle breeders €1.5m.

Support for the pig-farming sector will total €1.41m, a cabinet announcement said.

The payment of emergency state aid to support dairy farming will be €890,000.

In the tourism sector, low-income pensioners will be subsidised for holidays in mountain resorts from June 1 to July 31 to the tune of €800,000, which covers around 5,200 people.

In addition a subsidy plan for those engaged in producing traditional foods with the possibility of their inclusion in the ‘Taste Cyprus’ programme could receive up to be €200,000 per beneficiary.

Details of the various plans will be announced by the relevant ministries, the cabinet said.
