Five new concerts by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra are coming up in May welcoming young talents, established musicians and new directors on stage. The first concert evening for May is dedicated to welcoming the Orchestra’s new artistic director and conductor Gϋnter Neuhold. May 5 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre will be their first concert, and a free one, where they will present two masterful symphonies: Mozart’s Symphony no. 35, known as the Haffner Symphony, and Tchaikovsky’s 5th.

Then on May 12 and 13, in Nicosia and Larnaca respectively, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yiorgos Kountouris will share the stage with the new generation, hosting two young rising soloists: the charismatic 14-year-old violinist Ela Kallides and the amazing 16-year-old pianist Panagiotis Drakopoulos. The evening will feature a programme of pure romanticism with works by Franz Liszt, Pablo de Sarasate and Maurice Ravel in which emotions and passion are given full reign and a piece by Cypriot composer George Kolias for good measure.

Towards the end of May, a new Orchestra 4 All concert series will take place, this one titled Kiki in America. On May 21, 22, 28 and 29 the orchestra will perform this family concert in all of the four main cities of the island. Collaborating with music pedagogue Christina Charalambidou, the concerts will present the symphonic version of the musical story Kiki in America. The protagonist of the story is an adventurous chicklet named Kiki, which will come to life through storytelling, projected illustrations and live music.

The concert is addressed to children aged three to ten and includes interactive musical activities between the musicians, the music educators and the children during the performance, as well as in the brief workshop to follow.
