Remand for suspect in attempted murder

Nicosia court

A 21-year-old man was on Monday remanded for eight days in relation to the attempted murder of a 32-year-old man in Nicosia.

The suspect was arrested the previous day after the older man was found in an apartment building with wounds to his shoulder blade.

According to the victim’s statement to the police, the suspect, who was also at the scene, assaulted him with a knife at around 2pm.

Police escorted the two men outside of the building, where the 21-year-old attacked and kicked the already wounded man in the back, police told the Cyprus News Agency.

The victim was transferred to the Nicosia general hospital where he was treated for a 2cm wound on his shoulder blade that doctors said was caused by a sharp object. He received first aid and was discharged.

Police said the younger man is facing charges related to attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, injury, assault, and possession of a weapon.
