Ukrainians to hold memorial rally for victims of WWII and Russia’s invasion

The Ukrainian community in Cyprus will hold a memorial rally on May 8 to commemorate the victims of World War II and of the ongoing war in Ukraine and to protest Russian aggression.

May 8, Victory in Europe Day, is the day that the Allied forces accepted the unconditional surrender of Germany’s armed forces. In Ukraine, May 8 is commemorated as the “Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation” and pays tribute to the victims of WWII. It precedes the “Victory Day over Nazism”, that takes place on May 9, a national holiday that came to replace the Russian Federation’s “Victory Day”. Both holidays were first celebrated in Ukraine in 2015.

The Ukrainian community in Cyprus invites all members of the public to participate. The event will take place in Molos, Limassol near the skate park on Sunday, May 8 at 5pm
