A 60-year-old tourist was hospitalised in serious condition on Saturday after he attempted to dive down to the Zenobia shipwreck off the Larnaca coast.

The incident was reported by the Cyprus News Agency which said the man was diving with his wife, two friends and an instructor around 11am.

While he was at a depth of around 20 metres, the 60-year-old began to surface.

As soon as the instructor and the man’s friends became aware of the diver’s movements, they followed him and helped him out of the sea.

An ambulance from Larnaca general hospital was called and transported him to the accident and emergency department.
