A 24-year-old man has been arrested and taken into custody in connection with a burglary case in Paphos.

The burglary was committed on Sunday between 10 am and 5pm, and the owner of the house said €5,000, a bag with personal documents, and a bag containing jewellery were stolen.

Members of the police conducted examinations at the scene, where in an open space outside the house they located part of the stolen property, along with €3,420. The police also located other objects, which do not seem to belong to the owner of the house and whose ownership is being determined.

From examinations that followed, evidence emerged against the 24-year-old, who was located by police in Paphos district at around 5pm. He refused to be checked, raising suspicion, as a result of which he was arrested for spontaneous offences, despite resisting.

A purse with jewellery, identified as part of the property stolen from the complainant’s residence, was found on his person, as well as the sum of €600 in banknotes, coins, two mobile phones, and a branded watch, which is also being examined to determine if it was stolen. Also in his possession a knife was found in addition to a small amount cannabis and a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
