Police and the forestry department warned people on Tuesday to take care because of strong winds, particularly those driving on the highway.

The forestry department called on people to avoid activities that may cause fires.

“Winds of up to 6 to 7 Beaufort are expected on Tuesday afternoon,” it said.

“Should a fire take place during the day, it will be extremely difficult to put out. Therefore, we urge extreme caution during outdoor activities.”

It called on anyone noticing smoke or fire to contact the forestry department on 1407 or the fire department on 112.

Following the forestry department announcement, police also urged motorists to be extra careful while, particularly on highways, due to strong winds.

“There is currently an increased risk of road accidents,” an announcement said. “People driving on Tuesday are urged to exercise caution and drive at a safer, lower-than-usual speeds.”
