Missing swimmer found dead

An 86-year-old man who had gone missing while swimming in the sea in the Larnaca district on Sunday evening was later found dead, authorities said on Monday.

According to a statement from the JRCC rescue centre, at 9.15pm on Sunday, police received a call that the man, who had gone swimming off the coast of Meneou, was missing.

Police immediately mobilised and arrived on the scene with a speedboat, a foot patrol from Kiti police station and a vehicle with a thermal camera from the coastal observation system.

However, after extensive searches, at 10.15 pm the man was found in the sea dead.
