12 arrests for domestic violence in Paphos

Twelve people have been arrested in Paphos on suspicion of domestic violence over the past month.

Paphos police CID chief and spokesman Michalis Nicolaou told the Cyprus News Agency that 15 new domestic violence cases were registered at the Ppahos district court in June. He added that 12 people were arrested, while 15 exclusion orders were issued.

One person is on remand in the Nicosia central prison, Nicolaou said.

According to the district’s CID chief, police are collaborating with other agencies to offer help and find temporary accommodation for the victims.

Paphos police’s domestic violence unit was set up on February 15, 2021, staffed by mainly female officers who have received special training.

In its first year of operation, it investigated 271 cases that led to 126 arrests.
