A fire on Friday at a scrapyard in Ayia Varvara, Paphos has been extinguished, the fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis said, after it damaged a building and forty scrap cars.

The scrapyard is used for recycling old car parts, and the fire broke out from a welding torch, according to the fire services.

In posts on social media, Kettis said that the fire burned a pile of scrap cars and a building at the yard that held polyurethane.

The fire damaged office supplies in the building.

Four engines were called in to put out the blaze, and more personnel and two trucks were brought in from Limassol.

A fire truck will stay in the area to monitor.
