Tepak promotes engineers for heritage preservation

Cyprus university of technology (Tepak) has launched a new European project promoting research on heritage.

Ancient monuments and archaeological sites are in constant exposure to the dynamic environmental conditions that surround them. This, together with natural deterioration and the impact of general climate change, creates cascading negative impacts.

The proposed research areas of the Engineer project will contribute to the optimisation and effectiveness of monitoring and protection methods, looking forward to a longer conservation and preservation of Cyprus’ architectural heritage.

The project looks forward to the research and technological upgrading and excellence of the involved laboratories of the Department of Civil and Geoinformatics Engineering in the promising fields of geoinformatics and civil engineering, aiming at the scientific study, conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage.

For this project, under the full title civil engineering and geomatics innovative research on heritage, Tepak has secured a three-year funding from the European Commission, amounting to 1.5 million euros, under the Horizon Europe Twinning Call.

Four research laboratories of the Department of Civil and Geoinformatics Engineering will participate in the project, aiming to promote future interdisciplinary studies, research and educational activities on cultural heritage.

The proposed actions of the project involve researchers and academic staff of the university, as well as PhD candidates of the Department of Civil and Geoinformatics Engineering. Meanwhile, the educational activities and workshops of the project are expected to be attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department.
