As part of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra’s Starlight series comes a concert with three exceptional Venezuelan musicians. In the Starlight 1 – Great Performers concerts, the orchestra will be joined by internationally renowned conductor Manuel Hernández-Silva, trumpet virtuoso Pacho Flores and guitarist and cuatro player Jesús ‘Pingüino’ González.

An evening at Limassol’s Pattihio Municipal Theatre will bring musicians and audiences together, performing on October 12 before they travel to Strovolos Municipal Theatre for a concert on the following evening.

Schubert’s delightful Sixth Symphony will open the concerts. The captivating artistry of Flores will shine in the works by Latin American composers that follow: Heterónimos, composed by Flores himself, Villa-Lobos’ popular Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5 fusing baroque elements with Brazilian tunes and Piazzolla’s Revirado, a high-spirited tango piece.

In Flores’ Cantos y Revueltas, based on Venezuelan folk tunes and work chants, the famous trumpeter is joined by González on the cuatro – a small Venezuelan guitar-like instrument – rounding off the programme in an invigorating Venezuelan vibe.

Towards the end of the month, a concert by the Orchestra will bring together Cypriot myth and Viennese music. Organised in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy in Nicosia, the concert celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Austria and Cyprus. On this occasion, the evenings of October 24 and 26 will present emblematic music by great composers coming from the two countries.
