Dora Kakouratou: popular actress, writer dies

Cypriot popular actress and writer Dora Kakouratou died on Wednesday at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Limassol in 1945, Kakouratou was known for having played in some very popular films and TV series, such as ‘Oi diplares’ (1994), ‘Tin patisa’ (2007) and ‘Gia poion na vrexi!’ (1976).

After attending high school in her native town, she moved to Athens where she enrolled in the capital’s renowned drama school. She started performing in theatre when she was 15.

After completing her studies, she moved back to Cyprus, where she worked at the Cyprus Theatre Development Organisation (OTHAK) for about four years.

She also collaborated with Nikos Pantelidis’ ‘Laughter Troupe’.

In 1975 she founded her own theatrical company in Nicosia and started touring around Cyprus.

Over the years, she also appeared on television and on the radio and wrote poems. In 1965 she published her collection of poems titled ‘Pentagmata’.

Details of her funeral are yet to be announced by her family.
