In today’s episode, some 1,300 people will be hired in the police force and the fire department during the course of 2023.

According to a briefing to parliament given by Justice Minister Stefi Drakou during the next year the police will be beefed up by 700 constables and around 300 special police officers.

In other news, the “indifference” shown by the public about taking part in elections for the new Archbishop are a matter for concern, the new prelate said on Tuesday. The turn out in the people’s vote last Sunday was only 30.2 per cent.

Elsewhere, a new survey shows that three-quarters of Cypriots are unsatisfied with the justice system, while many retain reservations about the impartiality of judges.
