Man fined €3,000 for assaulting game wardens

A 31-year-old man was fined €3,000 for assaulting and insulting game wardens in Paphos, police said on Thursday.

Paphos deputy police chief Michalis Ioannou said the incident was reported at the Stroumbi police station by the game wardens on Wednesday.

According to their complaint, they had spotted a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road during their patrol in Yiolou community and had parked near it to check it. But when the driver of the vehicle in question noticed them, he allegedly got out of his car and started walking towards them with hostile intentions.

The man threatened them, swore at them and then pushed them with his hand, conservation officers said.

Then, he got back in his car, without complying with the instructions to search the vehicle and left the scene. The game wardens got his license plate numbers to report him.
