Early childhood education professor Eleni Loizou has published a book on infant pedagogy with practical suggestions for babies from birth to three-year-old toddlers.

Infants, from a very early age, have experiences of attending organised groups. Through early experiences the foundations are laid for children’s development and learning, both at school and in society.

Basic Principles of Infant Pedagogy is a useful handbook that reveals a clear philosophy and approach to the pedagogical principles of the infant period.

Among other things, it describes the all-round development and learning of infants, proposes a curriculum and ways of organising learning in this period.

It is addressed to practising and potential infant and nursery teachers, adults working with infants and parents. It presents both the theoretical and practical aspects of infant pedagogy through many original examples and practical suggestions.

In each chapter, questions for reflection and discussion for infant educators and practical suggestions focused on parents are proposed. The book is published by Pedio.

Loizou is a Professor of Early Childhood Education at the Department of Education, University of Cyprus.
