Betting shop robbery

A Nicosia betting shop was robbed at gunpoint just after midnight on Tuesday, police said, with the perpetrator making off with €4,870 in cash.

Police said it was ten minutes after midnight when the robber went into the establishment, brandishing a pistol.

There was one employee, a 23-year-old man, in the shop at the time, police said.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old owner of a mini market in the village of Frenaros, Famagusta, reported to police that his shop had been burgled and goods worth around €1,200 were stolen.

The shop did not have any security cameras or an alarm, and was not covered by insurance.
