The Larnaca District Court has banned an abusive football fan from attending any games pending his trial on May 13.

The 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and is facing charges relating to resisting arrest and swearing at police officers.

He had tried to enter Larnaca’s Antonis Papadopoulos stadium, home of Anorthosis football club, without a ticket, to watch Wednesday’s cup fixture versus APOEL.

When he was denied, he left and returned with a valid ticket.

But after he was allowed to enter, he started swearing at the police officers who had denied him the first time, resulting in his arrest.

Police spokesman Andreas Angelides said the Larnaca District Court be released the man but banned him from attending sports events until May 13, when his trial will commence.
