Russian tourist in serious condition after sustaining head injury

A Russian tourist was in serious condition at the Nicosia general hospital on Sunday after being found unconscious in his hotel room in Kato Paphos on Saturday.

The 57-year-old man had sustained a serious head injury but police are trying to establish whether he fell and hit his head, or was attacked. The tourist was to be examined on Sunday by a forensic pathologist.

The man was found Saturday morning on the floor of his room by a hotel employee who had been alerted by another member of staff that a man had been seen leaving the Russian tourist’s room through the window.

The injured tourist was first taken to Paphos general hospital but due to the seriousness of his head injury, he was transferred to Nicosia for surgery.

The 57-year-old had arrived in Cyprus on January 1 on holiday and was due to depart on January 16.
