More rain and snow on their way

By Annette Chrysostomou

A low pressure system is currently affecting Cyprus bringing snow and rain over the next few days, the met office said on Monday.

On Monday afternoon the weather will be mostly cloudy with local showers, isolated thunderstorms and snow in the mountainous areas. Winds will be north westerly to westerly, and very strong, especially in coastal areas. The sea is going to be choppy to rough.

The stormy and rainy weather will continue into the evening. Temperatures will drop to -1 degree in the higher mountains, 8 °C inland, and 10 to 12 °C in coastal areas.

On Tuesday local showers are forecast with some light snowfall in the mountains. However, in most regions sunny intervals are expected by the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to 13 °C inland, around 15 °C on the coast and 2 °C in the Troodos area.

From Wednesday to Friday it will be cloudy with some rain, isolated thunderstorms and more snowfall in Troodos. Temperatures will gradually rise by about 2 degrees before the weekend.

Due to heavy snowfall and mist the roads Platres-Troodos, Karvouna-Troodos and Prodromos-Troodos were closed to all vehicles on Monday morning.
