Fire damages warehouse in Yeri

A fire caused extensive damage to a warehouse in the industrial area of Yeri, outside Nicosia, on Sunday evening.

The fire started at around 9pm in the warehouse of a factory where materials to produce electronic cigarettes were stored. The building was part of an industrial complex of three warehouses. Members of police and fire services managed to contain the blaze by 1.45am on Monday before it could spread to the two neighbouring buildings.

A total of nine fire trucks from Nicosia were on the scene. Members of the Nicosia fire services who were off duty were also called to work and Larnaca staff were on stand-by but were not needed in the end.

However, the fire caused damage of as yet unknown value to the warehouse and its contents. Further tests will be carried out later on Monday.
